Advice on Pianoing Electricity with Blanka

I have practiced the piano method too long to still suck at it.  I can do it about 25% of the time, but the EX version comes out a lot when I don't want it to.  I'm doing jab, strong, fierce, strong, fierce.  Please give me some advice, hand position?  button sequence?  how to keep the EX from coming out?  Give me something.

What casperOne is saying isn't wrong at all, but slightly off the rails. The pianoing he mentions is more related to a wakeup situation. Same with double tapping.

Now it seems you already know that for a mashable special like Hundred Hand Slap or Electricity needs 5 inputs for it to come out. There's generally two ways you can go about it.

First is the "piano method" which many consider to be better in the long run as it requires better execution. Second is the sliding method which seems to yield easier results, but isn't friendly for your fingers (a glove is preferred). Both are just as good for getting the move out, just take your pick.

Here's a video showcasing both styles:

Sliding practices just consists of you skimming your fingers quickly over the buttons and trying to get that motion fluid enough so you can get your fingers back where you want them. With sliding there's less chance of getting an EX version because you're usually touching only one button at a time

Pianoing can be practiced in many ways. Firstly you might want to find a preferred order in which to press the buttons. Jab, strong, fierce, strong, fierce is fine. I use LP, MP, HP, LP, HP myself, but that's all preferences. There's no real way to go about the practice though, just keep repeating the sequence all the time. You don't need a stick to do the sequence. Drum the table at lunch. Drum the walls, drum all day until you get consistent and keep going even after that. If you're only getting it 25% of the time then you're just not there yet. Keep at it and don't forget to mix in some normals too.

Unlike prior versions of Street Fighter, pianoing (or drumming) isn't an effective way to aid with execution.  Because of the introduction of EX moves (which require more than one button input of different strengths) in Street Fighter 4 (as well as a lax input window), the act of pianoing, if done too quickly results in an EX move, which is not what you normally want.

Instead, what you want to do is use double-tapping, a technique similar to pianoing, but instead of tapping multiple buttons, you tap the same one.

The questions and answers on the topic of double-tapping go into more detail about the technique and how to apply it effectively (as well as provide video).

I've been playing with Blanka for ever, and I still can't piano/slide electricity out.  Dont feel too bad.

My method is to start with FP and quickly tap Strong, Jab,Strong, jab.  I learned that you can start electricity while doing any other move.  Say you are hopping (3K+direction), well while in the air you can be doing electricity, so when you land it comes out.

Thanks for all of the info, i'm using a new strategy now that is working well so far.  I hit jab with my pointer finger then almost simultaneously slide with my middle finger from strong to jab, then back to fierce.  So the five inputs are jab, strong, jab, strong, fierce.  It is working well because the fierce always comes out and i never mistakenly do the EX version.

I main Blanka, and I use the double-tap method, where you tap the button with two fingers one after the other; in my case, a jab comes out followed immediately by the Electric Thunder as a "two-in-one" combo if performed close enough to your opponent.

You might want to try that, as I've personally never found a use for pianoing.
