What are Cody's options on wakeup?

I've been playing Street Fighter 4 for the last year or so and since the release of Super Street Fighter 4 I've been messing around with Cody.

I find that I ometimes struggle with being on defense when I wake up from an attack.  What is a good way to be on the defensive other then jumping up or just blocking, or better, is there an offensive option that Cody has on wakeup?

Unfortunately, one of Cody's biggest weaknesses is his wakeup game, or his defensive capabilities in general, so this is an area where he doesn't have a lot of great options.

Most high-level Cody players I've talked to or read posts by seem to agree that oftentimes your best bet on wakeup is just to block. Jumping is a (perhaps risky) alternative, as you said, and you could backdash as well. Zonk Knuckle may be a potential option if your opponent goes for some sort of obvious meaty setup, but I haven't seen many Cody players try that on wakeup very often (especially because if it's blocked you're going to eat a fat combo).

I had a problem with this too.  I fought someone who hitting me with an unblockable focus on wake up and I couldn't get out.  Then I discovered a well timed Zonk Knuckle as you're getting up makes them stop real quick.

An EX Criminal Upper is fairly quick and catches some people off guard, but can be punished by some attacks so I'd use it sparingly just to surprise an opponent.

In general though there's always the usual: blocking, backdashing, ultra 1 and 2.

Also the Bad Spray can't be used in every situation, but I'd try to use it whenever you can.

-Bad spray.....Up+Punch,it seems like the answer that'd come to mind answer at first but as you yourself just noticed even you forgot was there. it only works on quick recoveres

-Ultra 2 also is big trouble on wake up I've caught a few people on jump in or trying to SRK or fireball me up close. Jump in usually works in that either you can get them just as they land and are caught off guard(FOR FULL ULTRA) or hit them in air.

-In the air is where things get intresting for ultra 2 I was able to hit an Ibuki with both the sand spray my ultra and the hit were timed right that I was able to hit that Ibuki with the 3 wrench swings but didn't get the launcer.
