What is the best way to get used to playing stick?

What is the best way to get used to a joystick when playing any version of Street Fighter?

Actually, finding the perfect grip of the stick itself. Then comes practice!
It took me quite a while to get used to playing with a stick after 18 years of playing with a D-pad.

Don't forget that there are tons of different stick designs, and one may fit your fingers/play style better than others.  If you have the opportunity, test them all out and figure out which one you like.  Especially if you're just playing at home (and even if you're going to tournaments) since you'll only be using your arcade stick.

Sanwa and Hori are ones i'm familiar with, you've got the balls and the bats, convex and concave buttons, square/circle/octagonal gates etc.  Find what feels the best for your, and THEN practice practice practice.

The main thing is practise. I know it sounds obvious, but hitting up training mode and running some execution drill (Ten hadoukens, Ten SRK's, ten tatsumakis etc) and practising combos, wether it be in training mode or trials realy does help.

Just keep at it, and your muscle memory will gradually transfer from your pad to your stick.

The ABSOLUTE WORST thing that you can do when trying to switch over to stick is use pad while doing so.  If you're going to transfer to stick, then do so without ever playing pad because you will just be making it hard on yourself.  Trust  me, I myself switched from pad to stick and that was the main thing that helped me transfer over so quickly.

now as for holding the stick i use the style that Daigo-Sama uses you know. shaft in-between the ring and pinky finger and slightly gripping the balltop (which to me feels too small on the Se stick) its just getting use to the japanese ergonomic button style.

stick, the the stick, don't go back to the pad no matter how tempting it gets, stick with it, and you will overcome the learning curve.

just using it a lot is the best way to get used to it practice makes perfect and all that stuff

being comfortable and relaxed is the best way to use the stick so find your own comfy grip and how you hold your hand over the buttons
