What's the idea behind a super jump cancel?

I'm interested in the super jump cancel for C.Viper while a friend is interested the same for Ibuki. I found a couple of videos but they were pretty vague on the subject. Some videos said you needed to flick down then up quickly after a move, while others said you only needed to flick up after a move. It kind of seems to me that its similar to Cammy's quick Cannon Spike?

Can someone clear this up for me and maybe a starter combo to practice with it?

okay, firstly a Super Jump Cancel allows you to link certain attacks together that you can't just link on their own. For example with both C.Viper & Ibuki it's possible to Combo into their Ultras form a normal attack. You can SJC into C.Viper's Ultra I from Cr/St. Jab (LP), Cr/St. Strong (MP) Cr/St. Fierce (HP) Cr/St. Forward (MK) This is the way I do it, just substitute the punch or kick button for the move that you want to SJC:

D, DF+MP, F, D, DF, F, UF+PPP (Note that Ibuki's SJC's into Ultra from normal moves use the same motion just with KKK and only using her Ultra II)

Inputting the MP after the first QCF is the best way to do this. If you are using a Mad Catz TE Stick one of the best pieces of advice I can give is to make your motion quick and neat and not to over exaggerate your motion. You really don't have to move your stick too much to do it. Just make sure it's neat. I'd suggest training with the Input Display on to help you see where/if you go wrong. Then it's all just practice.

If you are using C.Viper you will be using SJC's a lot in pretty much every match. The most common use of SJC's with C.Viper is when you are chaining Seismo's together to zone people and keep them pinned down. There are a few ways to do this.

The fist way looks like this:

Seismo (With any punch) then input DF, DF, UB+P

(DF, DF is not rolling from down to forward it literally is just tapping Down Forward x2 which is a shortcut for the Shoryuken/Seismo motion in SFIV/SSFIV) Then going to UB activates the SJC then when you press Punch the Seismo will come out immediately and cancel the recovery of that Seismo and allow for you to do another Seismo instantly. The reason I suggested going to UB is because when you are first learning this and you try it in a match and you mess up you will Super Jump backwards as opposed to Jumping forward and getting punished for your executional error. Jumping back keeps you safe.

The second way is to use the same motion as Cammy's Tiger Knee Cannon Strike so:

Seismo, D, DB, B, UF+P

this is in my opinion the best way to do this and the way I would suggest you learn it.

The third way to do it is:

Seismo, F, D, DF, U+P this is just wasted motion because of the easier ways to do it.

With regards to Ibuki her use of the SJC is slightly different and her SJC's are used at the end or in the middle of her Target Combos. She can Super Jump forward after her target combo St. LP, MP, Cr.HK, St.HK then follow up with a Kunai or just another Jump-In normal. If her Target Combo is blocked she can SJC backwards and retreat to safety. She has the ability to make any block string safe with her SJC. She can also link her Ultra II from her target combo LP, MP, HP xx SJC, Ultra II just use the same motion I gave for Viper earlier and SJC the HP in this combo.

Another good combo to link Ultra II with Ibuki is:

Cr.Jab, St. Jab, then the target combo St.LK, MK xx SJC, Ultra II

this is especially useful as it allows you to link into Ultra from landing a Cr.Jab.

She can also SJC into her command dash for close range mix-ups. To do her command dash you input a QCF, D, DF, F+K. When you want to SJC into a command dash use the motion D, DF, F, UF+K.

Eg. Target Combo St, LP, MP, HP, D, DF, F, UF+K if close in will cancel the recovery of her standing fierce and will cross-up the opponent for mix-ups.

All of this will take practice and you will find that once you have it in your arsenal that you can get yourself out of some pretty sticky situations and win the match. And I'll tell you now that winning a match because of a SJC Ultra feels pretty darn good.

Good Luck and I hope I helped you.
