Street Fighter 4 Buzzwords
Can someone post a note here that defines all of Street Fighter gameplay buzzwords (such as BnB, FADC, Option Select, etc)? This may help newbies (like myself) understand some of the shortcut terms the veterans use. :)

You'll also likely hear "Shotos" (plural of "Shoto") referring to Ken, Ryu, Akuma, Dan, Sakura and Gouken. This is a reference to their martial art called "Shotokan".

Option Select: is when there is two results to the same input, depending usually on hit or whiff. Like mentioned above, Crouch Teching is one of them(, but not the only one). If they don't grab you get a lk, if they do you tech teh grab, but essentially you pressed the same buttons. They are character specific. Look up you characters. Some character's OS are more useful than others.
Hit Confirm (combos): Is when a combo is finished on reaction to the first or firsts hits. Take Codey's hit confirm combo for example: c.lp, c.lp, c.mp xx. criminal upper. By the time you're on the second c.lp you can react depending weather the opponent is blocking or not. If they are not, you can finish the combo and if they are, you can bait, x-up, block string, or throw.
Block Strings - are combos that are executed when the opponent is blocking that end safely,meaning you can get punished. Taking from the previous Codey example, if you finish that combo and the opponent blocked it, the opponent can punish the blocked criminal upper, but if you ended the blocked combo at 3 hits (c.mp), the opponent cannot punish. (to find out more about this you might want to look up frames and frame advantage)

FADC = F.ocus A.ttack D.ash C.ancel = (focus attack then tap forward or back twice to cancel it and go into a new move) such as Ryu's shoryuken FADC into his ultra 1 or 2
BNB = Bread and Butter a characters main combo's
SRK = Ryu's uppercut (SRK = Shoryuken)
Tatsu = Ryu's Hurricane kick (Tatsu = Tatsumaki sempyaku)
Qcf/Qcb = quarter circle forward and quarter circle back motions on your controller (QCF = forward down forward and in reverse for QCB)
Option Select = as far as i know it this is the method of crouching and pressing the grab buttons while some1 is walking toward you or wakeing up the theory behind it is that if they try to grab you this will cancel it by trying to grab them back or they will get hit by a light punch or light kick (dont quote me though)
Block String = bassically these are combos that have been blocked by the other person i dont know myself the real significance of them it just makes me feel good when i do it
Pokes = the best way for me to describe this is fei longs crouching medium punch its a hit that does nice damage,doesnt leave you to open for punishment, and messes with your opponents mind a bit (in my experience pokes and block strings put your opponent in a position where they are afraid to move because they could get hit or dont know what to expect)
