Option Select Throw For Gouken
When I'm on the defence and aware that my opponent may try to throw me I tend to hit lp & lk while holding down and back. I run into problems when playing as Gouken though in that I may still be thrown.
Is the issue the fact that his backthrow takes more frames to start up, and therefore won't tech a quick grab by another character? What is my best course of defence or do I learn every throw animation (and react) or risk throwing out a forward grab at an inopportune moment?
Thanks!

If you try to tech while crouching and do it too early a short will come out instead and your opponents throw will win, every throw in the game has the same frames as far as i know (except command throws but those cant be teched ofc ) but different ranges, it doesnt hurt knowing which characters can kara-throw but for your problem my advice is to crouch tech late or tech it standing up.
I use something called Plinked Crouch Tech for me it has been usefull but im not sure if its actually the inputs that are working of if im actually used to tech at the right time when i anticipate a throw, this video explains it some people say plinking crouch techs are a lie and some say its true use it at your own discretion x).
The reason you're having trouble crouch teching with gouken using lp+lk is because his cr.lk comes out in 5 frames which is pretty slow, so there's extra time during which you can be thrown or hit out of the startup. I prefer to crouch tech with lp+lk+mk. Cr.mk is one frame faster at 4 frames, and its upward facing hitbox often stuffs divekick shenanigans.
