Overcoming mental blocks against certain characters.

lemme just start by saying that balrog is 1 of those characters im scared to fight because things like this always happen i get hit with shots that im not sure on how to defend against and then i either get block or focus attack happy

now does any1 have any tips on how to snap yourself out of being mindfucked while playing? or a way to break bad habbits such as whats shown here?

Block.

Yes. Just block.

Hold down back for a while and watch what he does. Don't worry about getting thrown, the amount of life you lose here is minimal. If you see him go for a dash punch, block down when he gets close then up to stop a potential overhead, then back down.

Get a feel for what Balrog wants to do and then start acting accordingly. See if he has patterns. Valle once said that you have one round to prepare for the next two: take that advice to heart. See what you can punish, see what you can get away with, get a feel for what he can't react to and use it.

And why block? Because you will lose a lot less life from it. You can option select tech throws a little bit but your main goal is to block. See what Balrog wants to do to you and what his gameplan is. Refusing to get hit with normals and specials can frustrate opponents and tends to get them to "open up" about their strategy to you. Try this for a little and see if your gameplan against Balrog improves over time.

so playin against balrog isn't as hard as you think. some of the simple moves that you can do to keep him off of you is use crouching light kick or strong kick never fierce, sweep, its too slow and you will get caught everytime. and also you can use your focus as a shield when he uses a normal attack. after he hits you dash forward for the grab or attack. but don't always dash forward mix it up with a back dash of a focus attack. also when jumping in the air don't do it too much other wise you become too predictable. but if you must jump then jump straight up, as long as you aren't too close or you'll get hit by his headbutt, not forward or backwards. the reason for straight up is if he whiffs then that will give you a opening to punish him with a good combo. also after watching your match try to use FADC if you attack is blocked that way he doesn't have a opening to punish you. also your pocks to keep him away and to give you a good chance to get out of the corner or to get him in to the corner

crouching light kicks should stuff his non EX charges and try hitting him with Fei's overhead kick when he's crouching and for his wakeup try jumping up and hitting him and if he blocks tick throw him and as far as Boxer's combos just block them and flame kick or mash them if you can with flame kick and try to predict what his next move will be (example: when he jumps in just block and when he starts doin his combo usually after the second hit if he sees you blocking he's either gonna try to throw you or charge at you and this is where the crouching light kicks come in and if he jumps just be ready to flame kick and also if he's blocking while your jabbing try back dashing and then focus attack) i dont really play Fei Long but i try to find chars weaknesses but these are just some tips that you can try until somebody comes forth with a better solution
