Countering/punishing Abel's Tornado Throw with Ken

I main Ken, but with any character find the start up on this move just insanely quick. He can interrupt Ultras, specials, normals, throws; you name it. Any advice on how to deal with Abels Tornado throw? Thanks,

Thanks casperOne, the frame data you have provided is very interesting, and is something i will try. The Abel i play usually preceeds the Tornado Throw with f.MK forward dash, and up until now ive been a bit lost as to how to deal (obviously, blocking and trying to throw first doesnt work).

As you say, and as is the case with any match up, its reading what my opponent is conditioned to do, and what they do reactively.

Thanks again mate, ill report back :)

The mistake that most people make with trying to counter Abel's Tornado Throw is that they try to crouch-tech the throw.  In doing so, they are putting up a throw against a command throw, which will always lose.

The key here is to use a throw invulnerable move or a move which has less startup when you detect Abel's Tornado Throw is coming.

Abel's Tornado Throw (all versions) has a five-frame startup.  Most characters L attacks will beat this out.

Also, in the specific case of Ken, his LP uppercut is throw-invulnerable for the first six frames of the animation, more than enough time to counter the Tornado Throw.

The biggest part of the problem is the mental game.  A good Abel player is going to condition you with a random mix of Tornado Throws, jabs, rolls, F+MK, etc. in order to keep you off your game.  The key to overcoming this is finding the pattern in his conditioning.  If the Abel player is going to use the Tornado Throw most of the time, then this is one of the cases where I dare say that spamming LP SRK would help.  Once your Abel opponent realizes that the Tornado Throw won't work all the time, they will stop utilizing it up close.

Just make sure to realize when Abel is switching his game up, because then you will leave yourself open for a punish when the Tornado Throw doesn't come out and you whiff your SRK.
