Who's the best defensive char in SSF4? Why?
I mean a character that's best suited for "control the pace", "react/counter" and "punish" strategy to get the lead. Or a character that doesn't really need to pressure / attack much.

Currently I find that Guile and Sagat are my two go-to characters when I feel I want full control of the matchup at hand. Both have great zoning skills with their projectiles and anti airs, but Guile is an incredibly defensive character, while Sagat can lay on the pressure offensively. In your case, I'd go Guile, who you can use many ways - Sonic Booms can be used to lay on some pressure at a distance or even bait an air throw. Flash Kick is an excelent anti-air, one of the best in the game. He seems incredibly simple, with only 2 special moves, but thats part of his charm - Hidden behind those two special moves is one of the best set of normals in the game. Once you learn how to punish your opponent with Guile, he becomes a tricky character to deal with.
Mind you, this is all for SSF4. Once Arcade Edition is released, Guile is going to see a TON of nerfs, including almost no EX bar charge from Sonic Booms, nerfed Flash Kick damage, and severely nerfed Sonic Hurricane damage.
@Arnold Y. Aguilar: In regards to your comment about spacing/zoning, its' more for proper spacing. Guile is a surprisingly complex character, as shown in this P-linking tutorial by SonicFlash122:
Oh, i'm not trying to switch to a defensive char. I just like to know the what makes them a good defensive char. Based on your explantion, Guile is a good defensive char because he's got a projectile, good anti-air and good set of normals. The projectile and flash kick for zoning and the normals for keeping the opponent away or to keep proper spacing? - Arnold Y. Aguilar Dec 29 '10 @ 4:53
Thanks Scan, now I understand Guile's tools better and what makes him a good defensive char. - Arnold Y. Aguilar Dec 29 '10 @ 4:58
Guile, because he's Guile.
