What are the differences between the Madkatz Fightstick TE and my HRAP EX?

I have a used HRAP EX that I purchased from eBay for like 89 dollars with a Sanwa squaregate stick and then I replaced the Hori buttons with 8 Sanwa buttons

What are the differences between these two sticks?

  • Button brand
  • Stick brand and type (i.e. square, octogonal)

Overall should I upgrade or am I good with what I have?

I prefer the square gate stick since that Is what I am use to.

MY opinion....

The Madcatz for one, is a better quality product.   If you compare just the cases (boxes) of the Madcatz to the HRAP EX, (without the joystick, or buttons etc), you would quickly notice that Madcatz makes theirs thicker, and heavier.  Why is this important?  Because if you play on a table top, the heaviness of the stick helps with execution.  Now of course this may all be opinion based, but its how I feel.

Aside from the quality, the biggest difference is the button layout and joystick position.  If you're used to the HRAP EX, going to the Madcatz will feel weird and vice versa.   Does it mean that one is better than the other ? NO!  If you're used to it... thats the one for you.   You shouldn't upgrade unless you have the extra cash to try out a different stick.

If I HAD to purchase one of these, I'd go with the Madcatz.  But to be honest, I was never into the button layout of the Madcatz or the squaregate and made my own from HAPP parts.

Anyway... you asked for differences:

Biggest differences:

Size of entire stick

Weight

Button layout

Joystick position (seems about the same IDK)

Turbo switch?

Easily customizable on the Madcatz

Able to hide your cord on the Madcatz
