Does stage lag exist?

I was at a tournament a while ago (before super came out) and I was watching this match where one of the guys went back to character select so he could switch the stage. He said the one they were on had too much lag.  Does stage lag really exist?

Just so you know, the stage was the diner.

What exists isn't "stage lag" exactly, but a massive drop in frame rate and as someone that played SF4 for a year straight on the PS3 and then bought a 360 before Super was released, it was VERY noticable to me. The frame rate drops only appear to happen on 360 and on two stages in particular; the drive-in diner stage and the African airstrip stage.

However in Super SF4 on 360, I've had the same slowdowns happen on the training stage now, which is quite odd.

While the slowdowns are VERY rare, it does only seem to happen on the 360 for some odd reason. And yes, it definitely does exist.

(I own both consoles, I don't want to be accused of posting some console bashing stuff here... I'm just telling you what I've seen.)

I would have to say no, it does not exist, even though some people claim to have experienced some issues involving "stage-lag".

However, because no standard tournament rule allowing for the switch from a stage if a random-select does select the diner stage existed in Street Fighter 4 tournament (it didn't exist at Evo 2009) and it doesn't seem to exist in Super Street Fighter 4 tournaments (it hasn't been announced as part of the ruleset for Evo 2010, but that could change) it would seem that if such a thing did exist, then it is simply a hypothesis without any definitive proof to support it at this time.
