SSFIV Ranking Battle Mode - "Unable To Join Session"

When you are in the Ranking Battle Main Menu and you want to search for an opponent via 'Quick Search' it seems that you are unable to join a session more often than you can join one. What is the reason for this?

Is it because the computer is finding a session that a few seconds before you searched someone else filled? Is it because the person has the wrong NAT type and maybe has theirs set to 'Strict' rather than 'Open'?

This is the only thing I don't really like about SSFIV Online. I preferred it how it was in SFIV where you can see all of the Gamertags/PSN ID's for everyone who has created a Lobby for Ranking Battles. You could also see how many rounds they had the game set to. I've been into matches where people have the game set to 1 Round and I usually wouldn't join them.

Another problem I have experienced is that the computer (when I've clicked on 'Quick Search') has linked me up with someone who I beaten a few games earlier, and for whatever reason they decided to 'Kick Me' or 'Remove me from the Session.' I then clicked on 'Quick Search' again and it linked me with him again...twice. In Vanilla SFIV I could see his Gamertag and just leave him alone but that isn't possible in SSFIV unfortunately.

What are your thoughts on the new Ranking Battle system for joining matches?

Well from what I have noticed I dont see the "game is full" (or was it "lobby is full"?) message anymore so I'm assuming this "unable to join" message is the replacement.

I remember how many times I joined a player in SF4 only to get "game is full". With more players being online in SSF4 that would only be more common. I just create my own game now and i usually get a green bar player in less than 30 seconds.

Fight request is the easiest way to get a match going.

You won't feel like it's time wasting either as you can play some Arcade while you wait.

Sometimes it's so annoyingly fast you can never finish Round 1 of the Arcade match :)

Same thing happens to me ...

It is better to just activate fight Request in arcade cause then at least while you are waiting to can be practicing, but I find that it is WAAAAAAY faster to get in to matches in arcade mode with fight request on ...

I find this really annoying as well.  I can't seem to join sessions as often as I can create them and successfully start.  I've opened everything up on my router, the ports are forwarded to the xbox, the xbox ip is set as the DMZ, and the NAT settings are open.  It's still shit.

A quick way of Checking is to Create Your Own Match.

Normally if this says SESSION FAILED - then you cant join other games.

What I do is sign out of Live and Sign back in and this seems to always sort out the problem.

Try it out yourself it works.

If requesting isn't your thing... my pattern to finding a match goes like this:

1. Custom - 3 rounds - 99 Seconds - SAME rank - Search

As soon as it searches, search again... then find the green bar fight and rush to it.  If it is at the bottom

get to it first by hitting up up up (til you get to it) .. I now get a match about 60-70% of the time as opposed

to Quick match which i get 10% success.
